2-day Abella chess slated July 27 to 28
THE Four Central Squares, Cebu’s newly-formed chess association will organize the ‘Roger T. Abella Memorial FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament’ to honor Roger Abella, touted as the father of Cebu chess and scrabble who passed on last April 17.
The two-day tournament will run from July 27-28 at the Elizabeth Mall Activity Center with a total prize fund of P21,300. Of this, P6,000 will go to the winner in the Open division.
Second placer will take home P4,000 while the third placer will receive P2,000. The fourth and fifth placers will pocket P1,000 and P800, respectively. The 6th to 15th placers will also receive cash while the top finishers in the Kiddies, Ladies, Seniors and 10-under divisions will each get P500.
The event will adopt a seven-round Swiss system format with 25 minutes per round and five seconds increment.
Registration fee is P200 for the Open division and P100 for the Ladies and Kiddies classes.
