UV Green Lancers fail badly in 27th Summer Universiade in Russia
The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers-manned Philippine team ended its stint in the 2013 Kazan Summer Universiade in humiliating fashion as the Filipinos were manhandled by Mexico, 67-139, in the final preliminary round game last Friday in Kazan, Russia.
It was the Lancers’ fifth loss in a row as they bowed out of contention with their tails between their legs, after one lopsided loss after another.
UV’s closest margin of defeat was 13 points, 79-92, against Mongolia last Thursday.
Against Mexico, the outcome was decided as early as the opening canto, which the latter started with a 14-2 run anchored on Fabian Jaimes’ eight points in that rally.
Mexico ended the first on top, 34-11 and proceeded to outscore the Lancers, 37-15, 39-16, 29-25, in the next three periods to log an overwhelming victory.
Mauricio Cheda led six players in double figures for Mexico with 23 points, six assists and three steals while Alejandro Garay added 21.
