2 suspected robbers shot after divesting bus passengers

MANILA, Philippines—Two suspects in a robbery holdup incident inside a bus along Edsa have been shot by the police, Radyo Inquirer reported Friday.

Kellen Bus (UVX 682) driver Joseph Tuiza told investigators that after the two suspects divested the passengers of their valuables, they immediately alighted but were quickly followed by two police officers in civilian clothes who were also on board the bus.

One of the suspects was taken to Mandaluyong Medical Center while the other suspect was taken to Cardinal Santos, the report said.

Initial reports from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s Metrobase Center said that the incident happened at around 4:40 p.m. inside the bus traveling southbound along Edsa-Reliance Street in Mandaluyong City.

The report said the two suspects, who have yet to be identified, apparently declared a heist inside the moving bus.

The report added that one of the suspects was hit in the head while the other was hit in the chest.

The Mandaluyong Police have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.

The MMDA also reported that traffic along Edsa’s southbound lane from Reliance Street is already heavy up to SM Megamall as of 5:33 p.m. With a report by Nathaniel R. Melican, Philippine Daily Inquirer
