THE MJDL Titans drew first blood in the finals as they rode the hot shooting Baeng Medalle to eke out a 73-66 win over the Cebu Inter Port Users (CIPU) in Game One of the best-of-three series in the Cebu Customs Invitational Tournament 2013 last Tuesday at the Benedicto College gym in Mandaue City.
The Titans were actually in a precarious situation as they were staring at 48-53 deficit at the start of the fourth canto. But they were unfazed as Medalle caught fire and single-handedly went on an 11-2 run that gave his team the lead for good, 59-55.
CIPU countered to draw close at 63-61 with 3:51 left in the game after shots by Ramil Aniñon and Takloy Moral, but Daniel Enriquez scored inside and Adrian Laborte drilled a triple to douse the fire and erect a 68-61 lead with 2:46 left, ensuring the pivotal first win in this championship series.
Medalle finished 24 points to lead the Titans while Nico Laborte added 13. Francis Moral paced CIPU with 23 points while Takloy Moral chipped in 21.
