CEBU CITY—The bar where a city councilor allegedly hit a 16-year-old boy in the head with a stone is facing closure.
The city treasurer’s office has asked Kuerks Restobar on Pelaez Street here to explain why it shouldn’t be closed down for operating without business and liquor permits.
The bar was also found serving liquor to minors, including the teenager who was allegedly hit by Councilor Gerardo Carillo. It is also located less than 50 meters from a school, which is a violation of a city ordinance.
Emma Villarete, acting city treasurer, said her recommendation to close Kuerks, however, has nothing to do with the controversy involving Carillo.
Witnesses tagged Carillo as the one who hit the teenager whose group was involved in a brawl with another group inside the bar on Sunday.
The teenager, whose father and brother are police officers, suffered a broken skull and is still in the intensive care unit of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center after undergoing surgery. With a report from Jhunnex Napallacan, Inquirer Visayas
