Man killed in shootout with Sta. Fe police
A 29-year-old man was killed in an alleged shootout with police in barangay Pooc, Sta. Fe town, northern Cebu.
Samuel Cayuban, 29, died with multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
The alleged shootout happened in a benefit dance yesterday dawn.
While the benefit dance was ongoing, police arrived in the area for intelligence gathering, said PO2 Esabilo Carasena of the Sta. Fe police.
A barangay tanod approached the policeman and tipped them off that a man possessing a gun was in the area.
The man was later identified as Cayuban.
Article continues after this advertisementPolice frisked Cayuban and found a 9mm caliber pistol and a .45 caliber pistol tucked in the man’s waist.
Article continues after this advertisementPolice ordered Cayuban to drop the guns to the ground.
But instead of heeding the police’s order, the man allegedly pulled out a gun and started shooting.
PO1 Esabilo Carasena and PO2 Erwin Odeña dodged the bullets by dropping to the ground. The two policemen returned fire, killing Cayuban instantly.
Samuel Baliton, 28, arrived in the area and intervened in the police investigation.
Police ended up arresting Baliton after two sachets of suspected shabu and five marijuana sticks were found in the U-box of his motorcycle.
Police later found out that Cayuban was the bodyguard of Baliton.
Police said Baliton was in the list of persons suspected to be involved in illegal drug trade.
