Pinoys top Bangkok blitz tilt

BANGKOK, Thailand—Fide Master Deniel Causo scored 11.5 points in 12 rounds to rule the Bangkok Chess Club Open Blitz Tournament last Friday (July 5, 2013) at the Queen Victoria Pub and Restaurant, here.

The event showed the Filipinos’ blitz chess prowess as Causo was followed in the overall standings by fellow Pinoys Jimson Bitoon (11 pts.), Filipino and United States chess master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. (10 pts.), NM Ric Portugalera (9 pts.) and Gainsfield Chess and Language Center director Henry Calacday (7 pts.).

Other woodpushers who participated in the 13-player, single round-robin, five minutes to finish event are; No. 6 Kai Tuorila of Finland (6 pts.), No. 7 William Campi (USA, 5 pts.), No. 8 Ho Jei-Chen (TPE, 5 pts.), No. 9 Ryan Calacday (PHI, 4.5 pts.), No. 10 Michael Culasing (PHI, 4 pts.), No. 11. Julie Ann Mendez (PHI, 2.5 pts.), No. 12 Aleister Laytham (ENG, 2 pts.) and No.13. Abraham Niehaus (RSA, 0.5 point).

The event was graced and officiated by Bangkok-based Mr. Kai Tuorila of Finland, Founder/President of Bangkok Chess Club.
