Man beaten to death

A MAN who had stepped out of his house for some fresh air was beaten to death in Quezon City shortly after midnight Sunday, according to a police report. Case officer Police Officer 2 Ronald Belgica of the Quezon City Police District identified the victim as Willieto Tenorio, 32, a resident of Barangay Unang  Sigaw in Quezon City. Belgica said the victim was already dead when he was found at around 12:15 a.m. yesterday under the Kamatsili footbridge. The victim sustained bruises on his nape and left cheek, he added. Belgica said the victim was found by a pedicab driver who saw him lying face down on the street. The police official added that the victim’s son, Ogie, said that he last saw his father alive at around 7 p.m. on Saturday when he arrived from work. After eating dinner, the victim stepped out of their house for some fresh air, Ogie added. The police said they had yet to establish the motive in the killing. Nancy C. Carvajal

Free viewing of Pacquiao fight

RESIDENTS of Marikina City will be treated anew to a free live viewing of the much-awaited fight between Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and American boxer Shane Mosley on May 8. The bout, dubbed “D’ Pacquiao-Mosley Eksplosibong Laban” will be beamed live on a giant screen measuring five by 10 feet at 9 a.m. on Sunday simultaneously at the Freedom Park in Barangay (village) Sta. Elena and at the Parang Playground in Barangay Parang. Mayor Del de Guzman said the free screening was expected to draw a crowd of 8, 000 spectators in both venues. Since last year, the city government has been providing residents with free live coverage of all of Pacquiao’s  fights. “This is a continuing project for the Marikeños as we give our all-out support for the country’s pound-for-pound king,” De Guzman said in a statement.
