MANILA, Philippines — A 61-year-old security guard died after he was found with multiple stab wounds and bruises Tuesday morning outside a compound in Quezon City.
Case investigator Police Officer 2 Rhic Pittong said Rodrigo Tadiarca was found lying bloodied in front of the property he was guarding at the corner of Quezon and D. Tuazon Avenues in Barangay (village) Doña Josefa.
Pittong said Tadiarca, a resident of Caloocan City, was discovered at around 4 a.m. by Rodel Bingayen, a fellow guard, just a few feet away from where the victim usually sat outside the compound along Quezon Avenue.
Tadiarca was still alive when his colleague found him, but died as he was brought to nearby United Doctor’s Medical Center.
Tadiarca, a guard of the Evergreen Security Service Corp., was posted at the property owned by a certain Ernesto Uy. The compound includes buildings and Uy’s house.
His shift ran from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., Pittong said.
Police learned from newspaper vendors nearby that there were two youths loitering near the property prior to the discovery of the victim.
Tadiarca suffered blows to the right temple and seven puncture and stab wounds to the chest, neck and face believed to be from a knife and an ice pick.
There were three duty guards per shift, including the victim and Bingayen. The property has three posts, one assigned to each guard.
Bingayen said he came to relieve Tadiarca of his post that morning when he saw the elderly guard on the ground.
Police said Tadiarca had no weapon as he left his shotgun at another post.
