Blackout for 8 hours in CamSur

NAGA CITY—The entire Camarines Sur will experience an eight-hour blackout on Wednesday to give way to maintenance work to its power supply system, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said on Monday.

The power shutdown from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. would allow the transfer of the 69-kilovolt load from the old 100-megavolt ampere transformer located in the city to a new transformer, according to an NGCP statement released by its spokesperson, Nelson Bautista.

The NGCP is the sole power supplier of the four electric cooperatives operating in the province, the Camarines Sur Electric Cooperative 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Bautista said the old transformer had been leaking and would require major repair.

The new transformer, he said, had been put in place and it could take some eight hours to transfer power supply from the old one.

“Normal operations will immediately resume after work completion. The NGCP’s customers and the general public are advised to take the necessary preparations and precautions for this scheduled interruption,” the statement said. Juan Escandor Jr., Inquirer Southern Luzon
