MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Justice (DoJ) placed under a 90-day preventive suspension five officials of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for negligence of their duties in allowing former Batangas Governor Antonio Leviste to leave his cell.

Those suspended and administratively charged were Chief Superintendents Ramon Reyes and Armando Miranda; BuCor Reservation Support Service (BRSS) Chief Dante Cruz, Police Senior Inspectors Roberto Rabo and Fortunato Justo.

They were slapped with an administrative case for grave misconduct, gross neglect of duty and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of service.

Justice Secretary Leila De Lima created a panel that will conduct a hearing on the administrative case. The panel is composed of State Counsel Amenda Leano-Garcia and lawyers Rafael Villanueva and Amelia Ponio.
