Servania’s former Mexican opponent killed
A Mexican boxer who once fought the unbeaten Genesis “Azukal” Servania was found dead with four gunshot wounds in the head.
According to Carlos Costa of philboxing.com, the Mexican media reported that Genaro “Poblanito” Garcia was found dead by a passerby in San Agustin Atzompa, junta auxiliar de San Lorenzo Chiautzingo in Mexico.
Mexican police theorized that Garcia may have been killed in an execution style. The motive for the killing is still under investigation.
The 35-year-old Garcia (39-10, 23 KOs) fought Servania in the main undercard of the Pinoy Pride 14: Night of Champions card held in June of last year at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of the Resorts World in Pasay City.
Garcia gave Servania all he could handle before he was knocked down in the 2:02 mark of the final round.
Garcia was the boxer who was contracted by ALA Promotions to fight the now retired Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista in Tagbilaran City, Bohol last March 2012.
The fight card became controversial when, at the last minute, it was discovered that the Genaro Garcia who arrived was not the one who was contracted to fight Bautista.
As a result, Bautista had an easy time dispatching the “fake” Genaro Garcia, scoring an easy second round stoppage.
The ALA Promotions had taken legal action against Mexican boxing agent Hugo Correa for sending the wrong Genaro Garcia. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
