Cepca monthly tourney resumes today at SM
THE Cebu Executive and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) Monthly Tournament will continue at 1 p.m. today at the Deep Blue Cafe, SM City Cebu.
The winner for the monthly tournament will compete against previous monthly winners in the yearend Player of the Year Championship.
The event will adopt a five-round Swiss system format with 15-minute playing time for players A and B.
The top player will join the ranks of monthly winners namely lawyer Jong Melendez for January, National Master (NM) Arnold Cadiz for February, Percival Fiel for March, Maggi Dionson for April and Manuel Abucay for May.
Some 25 Cepcans will compete in the event including new members from the Mactan Ebuen Air Base.
Meanwhile, Deep Blue Cafe will host one of Cebu’s biggest chess competitions, the ‘Engr. Blas Hipulan and Deep Blue Open Chess Tournament’ which offers more than P100,000 worth of cash prizes in the Open and Kiddies divisions. The event will unfold on June 30. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
