Mandaue City Council wants skywalk freed from billboards

/ 06:42 AM June 21, 2013

THE City Council of Mandaue City, passed a resolution asking the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to remove a commercial billboard in the pedestrian sky walk along the United Nations Avenue in barangay Umapad.

City Council Resolution no. 46-2013, approved last Wednesday is requesting DPWH Regional Director Pedro Herrera Jr., to investigate and immediately remove the billboard from the skywalk.

Lumapas, chairman of the Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure said that when the commercial billboard was placed, the advertiser did not secure a permit from the Office of the Building Officials (OBO).

Lumapas filed the resolution after Umapad barangay captain Nelson Rubio complained that residents are no longer using the pedestrian overpass in crossing the busy United Nations Avenue because they are afraid of robbers prowling in the skywalk which is now fully covered by the outdoor advertisement.
