Gamefowl owner falls into own trap

A man’s purpose to protect his gamefowls from thieves cost him his life.

Paterno Blanquero, 67, was electrocuted after he accidentally came into contact with a live wire which he had installed around the cages of his gamefowls to ward off thieves.

With his hand still holding on to the live wire, Blanquero was already dead when he was found by a neighbor around 6 a.m. yesterday in barangay Looc.

The neighbor, Leo Lasala, immediately alerted the victim’s family.

A family member hurriedly switched off the power.

Paramedics arrived but the victim was already dead.

Out of frustration, Blanquero’s son slaughtered his father’s five gamefowls by striking them with his bare hands.

Raising gamefowls was the victim’s pastime, according to his family.

Due to the rampant theft of gamefowls in the place, the victim installed a live wire around the cages.

The victim would switch on the live wire at night and would turn it off in the morning.

It was possible that the victim forgot to switch off the power causing the fatal accident.

Police said there were no signs of foul play in the death.
