‘Emong’ maintains strength

The low pressure area (LPA) estimated east of Surigao City has developed into a tropical depression and was named “Emong,” the state weather bureau said Sunday afternoon.

MANILA, Philippines—Tropical storm “Emong” maintained its strength as it moved northward midday Wednesday, the state weather bureau said.

Emong was last observed 400 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up 90 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

It continued to move north at 19 kph.

Emong was forecast to exit the Philippine territory by Thursday morning or 660 km northeast of Basco, Batanes.
