In line with their advocacy to promote “green” sustainable and smart Cebu, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold the Eko Conference: Green Economic Development today at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu which is one of the highlights for this year’s Cebu Business Month celebration.
Key speakers from the public and private sectors will be giving their talks revolving around the “green economic development initiative” theme and the roles of each sector to help achieve the goal.
“Our keynote speaker for the event is European Union Ambassador Guy Ledoux for the EU Smart and Sustainable Cities Initiative. We also have from government Cebu City councilor Ma. Nida C. Cabrera who heads the committee on parks and playground, wildlife, ecology and environmental management to talk about the role of LGU’s (local government units) in greening the cities and industries,” said Cebu Business Month chairman Melanie Ng.
Representatives from civic organizations and private professionals practicing “green” initiatives in their workplaces will talk about how they incorporated the initiatives in their projects like Archt. Maria Lourdes Onozawa who is a certified green professional and environmental planner.
MEGA CEBU
Because a “Green” Cebu is a “Sustainable” Cebu, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. chief operations officer Dominica B. Chua will also be talking about the Mega Cebu Development Plan: A Green City Model to the participants.
“We also believe that businesses have a critical role to play in the goal and that ‘greening’ their processes can even help them achieve competitiveness, especially the MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises). That is why we have Dr. Volker Steigerwald who is the project manager of GIZ and ProGED to talk about that topic,” Ng said.
