THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Negros Oriental turned over a Community-Managed Potable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (CP-WASH) project to the Ramrod Agricultural Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Rampuco) in barangay Mabigo, Canlaon City last June 6.
Rampuco, a DAR assisted cooperative, aims to enhance agrarian reform beneficiaries’ access to water and sanitation services.
The CP-WASH project involved the construction of low-cost facilities aimed at improving access to water supply and proper sanitation services.
These facilities are: rain water collector, which stores rainwater for reuse; a bio-sand filters, which removes pathogens and suspended solids and helps reduce discoloration, odor and unpleasant taste; and an iron removable filter, which removes iron from the water.
The project was completed after nine days of hands-on construction by Rampuco Watsan committee members and para-engineers.
The project worth P300,000 was funded by the DAR, the local government of Canlaon and Rampuco. It will benefit around 268 members of the cooperative.
Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Stephen Leonidas in his message, congratulated Rampuco for being blessed with projects that are significant to economic development of the community.
He encouraged the cooperative officials to manage the project carefully and continue supporting its members. He assured the members that DAR will always be available to provide assistance to the organization.
The turn-over ceremony and blessing of the project was attended by Rampuco members and officers led by coop chairman Edgardo Saministrado, vice chairman Gregorio Eson Jr., committee chairman German dela Paz, Canlaon City officials and DAR employees.
