MANILA, Philippines — The Mandaluyong Police are still investigating the motive in the killing of a Department of Energy (DOE) employee inside a beer house on Saturday.

Senior Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen, the Mandaluyong Police chief, said that homicide investigators have been looking for possible angles which led to the death of 40-year-old DOE employee Rolando Guanio.

The police said he was reportedly a regular at the Makul Beerhouse at Metro Mart Complex, Barangay Malamig, Mandaluyong City, where he was found dead on Saturday.

“Investigation showed that Guanio was on his way to the toilet when a still unidentified man followed him and stabbed him several times,” Quibuyen said. The victim immediately died of two stab wounds in his body.

The killer, still unidentified, escaped immediately after the attack.

Quibuyen said the police’s primary focus has been checking whether the killing was triggered by Guanio’s dispute with another beerhouse patron.

“We have requested a copy of footage from the establishment’s security cameras to help us identify the suspect,” he said.

Initial reports claimed that the beer house staff did not notice who had followed the victim to the toilet. The staff later found Guanio’s body in the toilet.
