Public told to practice good hygiene to combat dengue
WITH this week’s onset of the rainy season, health authorities warned Cebuanos to keep themselves and their surroundings clean to avoid being infected by dengue.
Dr. Cristina Giango, chief of the Cebu Provincial Health Office (CPHO), said they recorded 21 deaths out of 6,586 dengue cases from January to June this year or about 70 percent higher than the same period last year.
“Parents should bring their children to the hospital immediately if they show signs of dengue infection,” Giango said.
The early signs of dengue include sudden high fever, severe headaches, muscle and joint pains, nausea, vomiting, skin rashes and mild bleeding.
The provincial health office said they also coordinated with various schools and local government units (LGUs) in the province in their anti-dengue campaign.
Dr. Giango said the public should clean their surroundings and observe basic health safety tips.
