Pinoys capture golds in Standard competition
ALEKHINE Nouri of Taguig City, Allaney Jia G. Doroy of Agusan del Norte and Samantha Glo Revita of Rosales, Pangasinan carted away gold medals at yesterday’s conclusion of the Standard event of the 14th ASEAN + Age Group Chess Championships at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The 7-year-old Nouri defeated Nguyen Hoang Hiep of Vietnam in the eighth round then subdued Luvsandorj Orgilbold of Mongolia in the final round to finish with 8.0 points to top the Open 8 and under category.
Nouri also teamed up with Michael Concio Jr. of Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Jerish John Velarde of Lapu-Lapu City and James Henry Calacday of Antipolo City to bag the silver medal in the team event.
Doroy, for her part, drew her final two rounds to finish with 6.5 points, the same output of Vo and Juwita Ardelia Sharfina Menda of Indonesia. The three were awarded a gold medal each in the Girls 12 and under class.
Doroy together with Natori Biazza Diaz and Bea Mendoza also captured the gold medal in the team event.
Revita meantime, crushed Nguyen Hong Ngoc of Vietnam in the eighth round and Chandra Vania Vindy of Malaysia in the ninth to collect 7.0 points to share the gold with Nguyen Thi Minh Thu of Vietnam in the Girls 14 and under.

Meanwhile, National Master Alcon John Datu, Fide Master Haridas Pascua and International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia collected 6.0 points each to win silver medals in the Open 20 and under class topped by FM Nguyen Van Hai of Vietnam who had 7.5 points.
The Pinoy trio however, bagged the team event gold.
WIM elect Janelle Mae Frayna scored 6.0 points good for the silver medal in the Girls 20 and under. She teamed up with WFM Marie Antoinette San Diego and WNM Jan Jodilyn Fronda to win silver in the team event.
Other medallists: FM Paulo Bersamina (silver, individual), Bersamina, NM Giovanni Mejia and Jerad Docena of Bohol (silver, team event) in the Open 16 and under class; Daryl Unix Samantila, John Marvin Miciano, Carl Terrence Valdellonand John Merill Jacutina (bronze, team event) in the Open 12 and under and CM Stephen Rome Pangilinan, Julius Gonzales and Israelito Rilloraza (bronze, team event) in the Open 12 and under. /Correspondent Marlon Bernardino
