The De La Salle Zobel Santiago School Junior Green Archers survived a physical game against the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Green Lancers and chalked up an 80-72 victory last Tuesday in the Friendship Cup 2013 at the University of San Carlos-North Campus (USC-NC) Gymnasium.
With the win, the DLSZ Junior Green Archers set up a championship duel against the unbeaten Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles. The championship game was being played as of press time late last night at the Cebu Coliseum.
Renzo Subido put up anothher strong performance for the visiting team as he finished with 26 points for the Junior Green Archers.
The Junior Green Archers unleashed their arsenal in the first period to take a 23-13 lead. Jose Maldinger and Gio Abanilla helped Subido in the team’s second quarter offense to end the first half on top, 41-27.
In the third period, the Baby Lancers started to recover behind John Escalona and Leonard Santillan to cut the lead to nine.
The Junior Green Archers started to succumb to the Baby Lancer’s physically defense but Quinito Banzon managed to hit his three pointers to bring back the lead to double digits, 56-44.
UV managed to climb to within two points, 63-65, but the Archers were simply too good as they held on to the lead until the final buzzer.
Meanwhile, the Magis Eagles eliminated the host team USC Baby Warriors, 78-56, to secure the top spot in the friendly competition.
