Gilas Pilipinas recovers, beats Lithuanian Under-20 team

THE GILAS Pilipinas got back to their winning ways as they subdued the Lithuanian under-20 national squad, 83-75, in their ongoing training camp at the Nida gym in Neringa, Lithuania.

The win was the Nationals’ third in four games during this grueling two-week camp that aims to toughen the squad up in time for the Fiba Asia Men’s Championship in August.

It was an impressive feat for the Nationals, who beat a talented squad that boasts of three NCAA Division 1 players.

Head coach Chot Reyes came away impressed with the team’s efforts in spite of the numerous turnovers that they committed. “Beat the tall, tough U-20 NT, 83-75. Still a lot of TOs, still shot poorly from 3, but saw a lot of positives,” said Reyes on his Twitter account.

Jason Castro paced the squad with 14 points while naturalized player Marcus Douthit added 12. The Gilas previously had wins against Klaipedos Neptunas (81-76) and Birstono Jazz-Diremta (74-63) before losing to LSU-Baltai, 86-89./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
