Malabuyoc chess opens

THE FIRST-EVER Malabuyoc Open Chess Tournament will kick off today at the Poblacion barangay hall in Malabuyoc town, southwestern Cebu.

The tournament is organized by the Barangay Council of barangay Poblacion headed by captain Ehdie Quinanola and Engineer Ehte Dominguito.

The tournament will be using a Swiss system format with 25 minutes of playing time that follows FIDE rapid play chess rules. The number of rounds will be determined depending on how many players will compete today.

Registration fee is set at P150 for 15-years old above and P100 for 14 below. Registration will be done at the venue.

The competition will kick off at 8 a.m. It will be supervised by FIDE Arbiter Felix Poloyapoy, who is also the head coach of University of San Carlos (USC) chess team. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
