A CALL to reactivate the Local Disaster Risk Management Councils (LDRRMC) in all local government units in Cebu was made yesterday as the rainy season nears.
We are duty bound to ensure the readiness and for the development of an aggressive plan to implement during disasters, said Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano, chairman of the committee on environment.
Ouano said preparation would improve our chances to reduce destructive outcome.
He was referring to the geographical location of the Cebu province which would leave us vulnerable to typhoons.
“The best time to call for preparation and action is when this inevitable natural phenomena is far away our doorstep,” he said.
“Groundwork should be checked in all levels, barangay, municipality, City and the Province”
Ouano cited the National Policy under Republic Act 101211 which upholds the people’s right to life and property by addressing the root causes of vulnerabilities to disasters, strengthening the country’s institutional capacity for disaster risk reduction and management and building the resilience of local communities to disasters including climate change impacts./Correspondent Rene Alangilan
