CEBU City, Philippines—A 13-year-old boy was wounded when a policeman fired his gun toward the ground while the latter was in a fight with his landlord’s son in Barangay (village) Paknaan, Mandaue City, at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac, Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) director, identified the victim as Kevin Jay Tuñacao, who was hit in the back.
Gillamac said Tuñacao was among those who were watching the fistfight between Police Officer 1 Carlito Dongue of the Aviation Security Group in Lapu-Lapu City and his landlord’s son, Balbino de la Cruz.
Donque, who was reportedly off duty at the time, got his 9mm gun and fired a warning shot to the ground but the bullet ricocheted hitting Tuñacao at the back.
Dongue, who was renting a house in the barangay, took Tuñacao to the Mandaue City District Hospital for treatment.
The Mandaue City Police Office Investigation and Detective Management Bureau policemen arrested Dongue at the hospital and held him for questioning, said PO1 Ramil Elesar of MCPO-IDMB.
