QC cops seize P400,000 worth of stolen car parts from Banawe auto shop

MANILA, Philippines — Almost P400,000 worth of allegedly stolen car parts were seized on Monday afternoon from an auto shop selling secondhand supplies in Banawe, Quezon City.

No one was, however, arrested in the raid conducted by the Galas police station at a shop on Cardiz St. in Barangay Tatalon. Chief Superintendent George Regis, Quezon City Police District director, said the owner of the shop, a certain Nonong, was not around when police operatives conducted the inspection at around 2:30 p.m.

Assorted sideview mirrors, hubcaps and mags with markings such as Toyota, Ford, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Honda and BMW were recovered from the shop.

Superintendent Norberto Babagay, Galas police station commander, said the inspection was part of their visitorial powers under the Anti-Fencing Law.

He said youngsters and male adults were seen stealing the car parts from parked vehicles along Araneta Ave. near a row of funeral homes in the wee hours of the morning.

“Our surveillance showed that this is the place where they bring the stolen parts,” Babagay told reporters.

Police are still checking if the surplus shop is directly selling these car parts to customers or if it supplies other car shops with spare parts.
