Cebu traffic enforcer shot dead

CEBU CITY——A traffic enforcer was shot dead on Thursday morning while directing rush-hour traffic on busy Governor Cuenco Avenue in Barangay (village) Banilad.

Armando Daligdig, 47, a father of two girls from the mountain village of Budlaan, Cebu City, suffered gunshot wounds in the head, shoulder and chest.

The unidentified gunman fled on a motorcycle after the shooting, which occurred at 7:45 a.m. near the foot of the Banilad flyover.

According to Joy Tumulak of the Cebu City Traffic Operations and Management, Daligdig reported for work at 7 a.m. and went to his assigned area, which was near the flyover where traffic is usually heavy during rush hours.

While Daligdig  was directing traffic, according to Tumulak, a man on a motorcycle came by and motioned for the traffic enforcer to approach him. As the Daligdig walked toward him, the man on the motorcycle fired at the traffic enforcer several times, Tumulak said.

The gunman, who was clad in denim jacket and camouflage shorts, then sped off toward Mandaue City, Tumulak said.

Daligdig was rushed to the Gullas Medical Center, also in Barangay Banilad, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
