Determined Cuello starts heavy sparring sessions for title fight

DENVER ‘The Excitement’ Cuello (33-4-6, 21 KOs) is going full throttle in his preparations for his upcoming world title shot this June 28 in Dubai, UAE.

Cuello’s manager and promoter Aljoe Jaro e-mailed this writer to inform that Cuello has already logged a total of 24 rounds of light sparring and had eight rounds of heavy sparring Tuesday against his stablemates, former WBC world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro and Lionel Legada.

The 26 year-old Cuello, a southpaw from Iloilo, will face WBC minimumweight world champion Xiong Zhao Zhong (20W-4L-1D, 11 KOs) of China at the Dubai World Center.

Aljoe Jaro also informed that Legada will be fighting in the undercard against Zhong’s stablemate Xiang Jing.

Jaro said that Cuello now weighs 113 lbs, just 8 lbs over the division limit. His training regimen also consists of his daily morning jog up the hills in Antipolo.

They plan to leave for Dubai on June 22 and they hope to reach their target of 120 rounds of sparring one week before the big day. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
