In their commitment to support the Cepoc Elementary School in Naga City, southern Cebu, almost a hundred personnel of the Apocemco Cemex Philippines joined the parents, teachers and students in the cleanup of school premises, repair of broken tables and chairs, rebuilding of perimeter fence, replacement of fixtures and cemented pathways and the repainting of steel fences, classrooms, tables and chairs.
The activity was in line with the Brigada Eskwela of the Department of Education (DepEd) enjoining people in the community to do repairs, maintenance and clean up of schools prior to the opening of classes.
Myra Tañola, principal of Cepoc Elementary School in barangay Tinaan, Naga and Dr. Senen Paulin, City Schools Division Superintendent, thanked Cemex and the stakeholders present last Friday for preparing the school for the first day of classes.
Paulin said it is a task set for the students, teachers and parents “to sustain and maintain what has been beautifully started by Cemex.”
Cepoc has long benefited from Cemex being its adopted school.
Tañola said that Cemex sponsors the yearly field trip for the grade six students. It also maintained their cemented pathways, built their school gates, perimeter fences and equipped their computer laboratory.
Present during the cleanup operations were Apo Cement Naga plant manager Normandy Chan, Apo Cement Naga community relations officer Engr. Ariel Lazarte, Cemex director for corporate communications and public affairs Chito Maniago, Cemex corporate communications manager Erlinda Lizardo, Cemex technical director Jens Lund, Apo Cement Naga plant Human Resource manager Danilo Antonio, Cepoc Elementary School PTA president Gerodene Cabucos and barangay officials.
