Patricia Ana Maximo adds silver to medal collection at PNG; Baby Lancers still unbeaten

The University of Visayas (UV) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) remained unbeaten in the under-16 basketball championship of the POC-PSC Philippine National Games at the Arellano University Taft gymnasium.

The UV Baby Lancers rolled to their third straight win after crushing Lucena City, 92-40. The defending under-16 national champions also demolished Cagayan de Oro, 86-58, and AMA University, 86-74, through the consistent plays of Leonard Santillan and Ralp Jude Dinolan.

UST also won three games in the 10-team tournament organized by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas with emphatic victories over Dagupan, 109-24, and Claret, 89-60, allowing it to pull even with the Baby Lancers.

SBP deputy executive director Bernie Atienza said the ongoing under-16 national finals is the federation’s way of contributing to the objectives of the PNG.

Meanwhile, fast-rising Cebuana junior cyclist Patricia Ana Maximo continued her stellar showing as she bagged her second silver medal in the Games after placing second in the 3,000-meter Individual Pursuit event at the Amoranto Velodrome in Quezon City.

Just days after grabbing the silver medal in the 500m Time Trials, Maximo burnished her reputation as she became the youngest double-medal winner in the country’s prestigious multi-sport event.

The Individual Pursuit is an event where two cyclists begin the race from a stationary position on opposite sides of the track. The two riders start at the same time and set off to complete the race distance in the fastest time. /inquirer with Correspondent Jonas Panerio
