CEBUANO coach Britt Carlo Reroma will try to weave his winning touch into a moribund squad after accepting the head coaching position for the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors.
The former head coach of the San Beda Red Cubs has apparently found a new home in the Baby Warriors’ camp and will try to replicate the magic that allowed him to claim three championships in the last four years in the NCAA tournament.
In a stunning turn of events, Reroma abruptly resigned from the head coaching position of the NCAA’s most successful juniors program with 20 titles already to their name last April, citing personal reasons.
In an interview during that time, Reroma also added that he was going to get some rest first before deciding on his new destination. That destination turned out to be USC, which brings him back to the city where it all started.
Reroma previously played for Don Bosco before getting discovered by San Beda’s legendary tactician Ato Badolato. He flourished in Manila before eventually landing the top coaching job for the hoops stars factory.
“It feels great to be back in Cebu and to be able to coach at a great school with this basketball program,” said Reroma yesterday.
Reroma got plenty of feelers from different programs but eventually decided on USC as the challenge of elevating the juniors basketball program proved to be too enticing.
The Baby Warriors have not had much success in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) and does not have a single title to their name.
“Well, USC has not won a title in the Cesafi and the challenge of winning one greatly influenced my decision to join them,” added Reroma. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
