Police are hunting a house helper who was accused of theft by his Indian employer in barangay Centro, Mandaue City.
Geraldine Gonzales, a native of Zamboanga City, could no longer be located after the theft was discovered last Saturday afternoon.
Gonzales lived in barangay Ibabao-Estancia when she worked for Major Singh, 42, for almost a month, police said.
Police said Gonzales asked permission from Singh that she would go home for a while after cleaning the second floor of the house.
Singh told police that he went upstairs around 4 p.m. and discovered that the door of his room had been opened.
Singh later discovered that a drawer where cash and jewelry were kept was destroyed.
Among the missing items were P40,000 cash, jewlery worth P30,000 and an iPad worth P26,000.
Singh sought the help of the police.
Operatives of the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) of the Mandaue City Police went to the woman’s house but she was not around.
SPO3 Marcos Noval Jr., IDMB investigator, one of the woman’s daughters said that her mother went home Saturday noon but left right away with her two other children aged four and nine.
The daughter said she didn’t known where her mother went.
Gonzales is separated from her husband with whom she has nine children.
Noval said that according to some neighbors, Gonzales had debts to several people in the area./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
