THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers zoomed to the top of the standings as they demolished the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers, 95-53, in the juniors division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Baby Lancers pounced on the Baby Panthers from the get-go, as they established a 24-10 lead after just the first period. That lead eventually ballooned to 22 at halftime, 50-28.
Ron Dennison, the brother of former UV Green Lancer Ritchum Dennison, paced the winners with 20 points while Reeve Ugsang added 11 markers. USPF summoned 14 markers from veteran wingman Rommel Diapera.
UV hiked its record to 2-0 (win-loss), the same as the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles.
Meanwhile, the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars eked past the University of Cebu Baby Webmasters, 77-75, in the other juniors game.
In the last game on Saturday, the University of San Carlos Warriors spoiled the coaching debut of multi-titled head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba for the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras, 65-63. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
