THE visiting teams asserted their might as the St. John’s Institute (SJI) and the Ateneo de Iloilo (AdI) grabbed their third wins in the CYBL VISMIN Goodwill Games 2013 at the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Gym in Canduman, Mandaue City yesterday.
SJI defeated the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 44-16, before taking care of the University of the Visayas (UV), 47-46, to nab a share of the lead in the standings in Group B in the Small Basketeers of the Philippines division.
Standing toe-to-toe with them is the University of San Carlos (USC), which squeaked past Cebu Eastern College, 38-34, then cruised against Don Bosco, 51-19.
In other Group B games of the SBP division, UV stopped Don Bosco, 56-30, while CEC ran over USJR, 54-16.
In Group A of the SBP division, AdI streaked to a 3-0 (win-loss) record after defeating NOODA Warriors of Bacolod, 53-40, and SHS-Ateneo de Cebu, 48-42 to pad their record to 3-0. SHS-Ateneo dropped St. Benedict’s, 59-17, and Xavier University(XU)/Ateneo de Cagayan beat St. Benedict’s, 38-20.
In the Passerelle division USC and AdI also went 3-0 to share the lead.
USC dumped SHS-Ateneo de Cebu, 62-38, and Don Bosco, 76-34. AdI kept pace with wins over Don Bosco-B, 57-22 and SHS-Ateneo de Cebu, 40-32.
In the other contests, CEC won over USJ-R, 85-35, and SJI, 63-51. Don Bosco-A dropped USJR, 49-32. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
