Habal driver gunned down

A HABAL-HABAL driver was shot dead while waiting for passengers in barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City.

Personal grudges and illegal drug connections are being looked into as possible motives in the killing of Ricky Daisog, 32.

Investigators are checking reports that the victim was involved in illegal drug trade, said Chief Insp. Michael Anthony Bastes, chief of the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO).

Police said that according to some relatives, Daisog was stabbed by a still-unidentified assailant a month ago.

Because of the incident, relatives advised the man not to continue driving a habal-habal motorcycle for his safety.

At past 11 p.m. Tuesday, Daisog parked his motorcycle on Plaridel Street while waiting for passengers.

Two men on a motorcycle arrived.

The backrider drew a gun and shot the victim several times. The assailants drove off after the attack.

The victim was already dead when paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (Eruf) arrived, said SPO2 Marcos Noval Jr., investigator of IDMB.

Seven spent shells and two slugs from a .45 caliber pistol were recovered from the crime scene./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
