MANILA, Philippines—An employee of the Department of Social Welfare and Development was hacked to death by a teenager in Abra after the DSWD employee allegedly tried to rape the sister of the teenaged suspect, police said.
In a report, Abra Provincial Police Office identified the victim as John Paul Barbero, 29, who died on the spot after sustaining multiple hack wounds in different parts of his body.
Police said the incident transpired at Sitio Las-ud in Barangay (village) Bollilising in Villaviciosa, Abra around 11 a.m. Tuesday after Barbero allegedly went to the tobacco curing barn of the suspect and subsequently tried to rape the suspect’s 21 year-old sister.
The information on the manner by how Barbero tried to rape the suspect’s sister was, however, not immediately available.
This allegedly prompted the suspect to grab his bolo (jungle knife) and attack Barbero.
The minor was later arrested, and the bolo used in the crime was recovered.
The case was placed for further investigation.
