UPAA Kapihan tackles mind, body wellness

The University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA), in cooperation with the UP Medical Alumni Society, will host “Seasons of Life II:  Wellness throughout the Lifespan” on June 11, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ang Bahay ng Alumni Anteroom, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

The second in a series of wellness events, this symposium is titled “Defying Time and Genetics: Keeping Mind and Body Young and Healthy.” Conducted in a talk show format, the program will be hosted by Geriatric Medicine specialist Dr. Shelley de la Vega.

The panel includes neurologist Dr. Grace Orteza, who will speak on the mind; neurosurgeon Dr. Gerardo Legaspi for the body; and Dr. Lou Querubin on the psyche. The event is in support of the greater UP community’s health and wellness programs.

Since its first wellness event, the UP Medical Alumni Society has been able get support from the communities and administrations of UP Diliman, UP Manila and UP Los Baños, plus the UP Health Service, College of Human Kinetics and various other colleges.

The group has provided free blood tests, bone density checks and various health screens through different sponsors. The “Seasons of Life II…” symposium is open to UPAA members, organizing committees, alumni, faculty and staff.

The UPAA is celebrating its centennial this year with the 2013 UP General Alumni-Faculty Homecoming and Reunion on June 22 as centerpiece of the yearlong observance, and with the publication of the UPAA Centennial Yearbook.
