Fire hits SM store in Cavite

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Philippines-Fire hit a four-story building of the SM Hypermarket in Dasmariñas City in Cavite early Tuesday, authorities said.

Fire Officer 3 Elpedio Urbano said the fire broke out at 8:45 a.m. at the lower ground floor of the SM Hypermarket located in Barangay (village) Burol I.

Quoting initial accounts of witnesses, Urbano said the fire allegedly started from an outlet of the fast-food store Mang Inasal, which was undergoing renovation. He said the fire crept to adjacent stores inside the building, citing damage to CDR King, a store that sells computer and cell phone gadgets.

Firefighters were still in the area to put out the fire and assess the damage to property.

Urbano said Hypermarket was still closed when the fire broke out, but the fire stirred a commotion in a nearby public wet market. No casualties were initially reported.
