Illegal logs seized in Davao Oriental–military

MANILA, Philippines — Government security forces have seized abandoned illegal logs in Davao Oriental, the military said in a report Tuesday.

The combined elements of Army’s 701st Infantry Brigade, 104th Division Reconnaissance Company and local officials seized 24 pieces of Lawaan (lauan) logs, estimated about 21.64 cubic meters at about 5 p.m. at Sitio (sub-village) Kwatin, Tagbinonga village in Mati City Monday.

The logs were taken by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office in Mati.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources recently stepped up its anti illegal logging drive, and has tapped the services Armed Forces of the Philippines to help in its implementation. Frances Mangosing
