Abucay is Cepca May champion

MANUEL Abucay emerged champion in last Sunday’s Cebu Executive and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) Monthly Chess Tournament held at the Deep Blue Cafe at the SM City Cebu.

Abucay was named the best wood pusher for the month of May and thus booked a seat for the finals slated this December.

Abucay finished on top after beating four wood pushers in his entire campaign and settled for a draw against Maggi Dionson in the fifth and final round.

The finals of the monthly competition will be held this December where the 12 monthly winners will compete for the coveted “player of the year” plum.

Monthly winners so far are Jong Melendez for January, NM Arnold Cadiz for February, Percival Fiel for March, Dionson for April and Abucay. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
