Driver loses all earnings, taxicab to holdup men

MANILA, Philippines—A 60-year-old driver lost his taxi cab and a day’s earnings to two robbers who posed as passengers early Sunday, police said.

Superintendent Alfredo Calama-an, Pasig police’s deputy chief, said taxi driver Alex Madrid Sr., a resident of Novaliches, Quezon City, was dropped off by the robbers on C-5 flyover in Barangay (village) Ugong, Pasig City around 4:30 a.m.

The driver immediately sought the help of the Pasig police, which later issued a flash alarm among police stations in Metro Manila to recover the stolen taxi with plate number TYM575.

Investigation showed that robbers flagged down the taxi at Ermita, Manila, around 3:30 a.m. When they reached Makati City, the men, armed with a fan knife and a .45-cal. Pistol, declared the robbery and commandeered the vehicle.

The robbers drove up to C-5 Road where they left the driver. They also took from the victim his earnings worth P4,100.

“He pleaded for his life…He even told the robbers to take with them all his money. Luckily, they left him unhurt,” Calama-an said over the phone.

The Pasig police have sought the help of the Manila police in following up the case.
