Man holds girl hostage, mauled
A MAN was beaten black and blue by angry residents after he held hostage a nine-year-old girl in barangay Suba, Cebu City.
Polinario Nanoy was suspected to be high on drugs during the incident, said Armando Cabugason, a tanod in the barangay.
Cabugason said Nanoy, who was armed with a knife, ran amok Wednesday night inside the barangay gymnasium.
Cabugason and fellow tanods to the gymnasium to check on the incident.
Police said Nanoy panicked when he saw the arriving tanods and ran to an alley.
While trying to escape, Nanoy grabbed the nine-year-old girl who was playing with other children at the time.
The man wrapped his arm around the girl’s neck while pointing a knife at her.
The girl’s mother told police that she was doing household chores when she learned that her daughter was held hostage.
Police said Nanoy was dragging the girl when one of the residents, Edgardo “Ondo” Tortor, 41, appeared from behind and grabbed his arm.
Other residents help subdue Nanoy.
Tortor was wounded in the right hand after he tried to grab the knife from Nanoy.
Child abuse, physical injuries and attempted murder charges will be filed against Nanoy, said San Nicolas police chief Leonil Avergunzado./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
