Eighty-seven Young Minds Academy (YMA) season 7 scholars participated in a social discovery walk last April 30.
The scholars, divided into six teams, were tasked to immerse themselves in six destinations for their challenge, namely, Cebu Normal University, Cebu IT Park, former Cebu City councilor Nestor Archival’s Eco House in Talamban, Carbon Public Market, Museo Sugbo and the Children of Cebu Foundation Inc.
The teams listed down all the establishments along Osmeña Boulevard and Cebu IT Park as well as the recyclable items in Archival’s Eco House.
In Carbon Market, the scholars were given a P305 budget to buy grocery items enough for a family of 12.
The groups then headed to Museo Sugbo to design a historical timeline and then to the Children of Cebu Foundation Inc. for the last leg of their challenge.
After the challenge, the scholars shared the lessons they learned from the walk.
The social discovery walk was one of the activities of Young Minds Academy season 7 facilitated by the Kool Adventure Camp of Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc.-Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center.
The YMA scholars, composed of high school and college students from Cebu City, were introduced during the covenant signing last April 2 at the Eduardo Aboitiz Hall for the staging of YMA season 7, an eight-month leadership and citizenship program that began recently.
The YMA includes experiential education, immersion and open discourse on the challenges facing the community, particularly Metro Cebu.
The scholars will generate ideas and solutions that they could implement in Metro Cebu, in cooperation with the local government units, for their final output.
