USC, AdC to battle for CAFC Ladies title

THE University of San Carlos (USC) and Ateneo de Cebu (AdC) inched closer to the Ladies Open crown of the Cebu Amateur Football Club’s (CAFC) 13th Cebu Inter-Club Football Cup after both teams advanced to the finals yesterday  at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

In a preview of what would be the finals match, USC blanked AdC, 4-0, to hand the Magis Eagles their first defeat of the tournament. The win allowed USC to take the top spot with a clean slate as it won all three of its matches.

AdC finished at second place with two wins and one loss. It gets its chance at redemption against USC today.

In the Men’s Open battle at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), two-time defending champion Hiroshi FC bounced back with a 6-1 lambasting of Don Bosco United (DBU) FC.

The win allowed Hiroshi to take the top spot from CAFC in Group B with seven points. Rodney Gandionco led Hiroshi FC’s scoring with four goals.  The rest of Hiroshi FC’s goals were scored by Roy Melgo and FolkHanes Anthony.

DBU FC’s only goal came from Val Calvo, who found the back of the net in the 69th minute.

Calvo, who is home on summer vacation, is one of the key players who helped Ateneo de Manila University win the 75th University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) football title.

Samba FC pushed CAFC down to the third spot after a 4-2 victory.

A goal at the 5th minute by Kenny Dumangcas allowed CAFC to take the lead until Samba FC was able to score the equalizer in the 26th minute. It was Samba FC’s turn to score early in the second half courtesy of Hilowle Ahmed. However, CAFC was able to make it 2-all on the 60th minute.

CAFC had no answer when Samba FC added two more goals courtesy of Cedric Tumbo and Jibrin Musa.

Hiroshi FC and Samba FC both have two wins and one draw. Hiroshi FC took the top spot on a goal difference of eight points compared to Samba FC’s six points.

In Group A, ERCO FC bounced from a loss with a 6-2 thrashing of visiting Hijos del Pueblo.

Philippine Azkals team captain Emilio “Chieffy” Caligdong became ERCO FC’s redemption after he scored five of the team’s six goals. The other goal was scored by Raffy Abano.

Danao FC earned its first win after Cebu Korea FC defaulted in their match.

In the 40-Above, ERCO FC also enjoyed a 5-1 win against JEH United while Kevlar Queen City United (QCU) A and KN Ferraren ended their match in a 3-all draw. In the 18-Under, Springdale FC inflicted a 3-0 defeat against Pocket Monster.
