Solon says plunder case in response to signal from Aquino to go after Arroyo

MANILA, Philippines—Elena Bautista-Horn, spokesperson of former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, has withheld comment until they have received a copy of the complaint filed by former Solicitor General Frank Chavez.

But Arroyo’s ally, Quezon Rep. Danilo  Suarez, said that the latest court case against her was just in response to President Aquino’s “not so subtle’’ order to go after the former President and her family and allies.

“He (Chavez) is just responding to the signal sent by President Aquino. Others can follow to put the pressure on the former president and this is unfortunate because (Chavez) is just diverting the public’s attention away from the country’s pressing problems,’’ said Suarez.

Suarez said he wanted to know what the administration hoped to achieve by digging up old files or evidence against Arroyo and whether it would help solve the rising cost of oil and other goods and services.
