The San Marino Corned Tuna-Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildcats snatched the third seed in the quarterfinals after they outgunned the Cebu Landmasters-University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 94-79, in their playoff game in the 2013 Enervon-Cesafi Partner’s Cup yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
With the win, the Wildcats set up a date with the Raphael’s Sports Bar-University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars in the next round. The Warriors will take on the Lion Tiger-University of Southern Philippines Foundation.
The Wildcats pounced on the Warriors in the second period, where they outscored the latter, 27-16, to seize a 44-33 advantage at halftime after being tied at 17-all after the first 10 minutes of action.
At the helm of that sizzling run was Floyd Taboada, who scored the bulk of his 16 points in that pivotal stretch.
Wiry forward Vincent Menguito did the Warriors in with his energetic play that kept their opponents at bay until the final buzzer.
Menguito finished the match with a game-high 20 points.
African import Ahmed Salihou paced the Warriors with 15 points but they suffered greatly from the measly five-point performance of top gunner Stephen Que.
