DAANBANTAYAN MAYOR UNSEATED
DAANBANTAYAN Mayor Maria Luisa Loot is ending her long reign as mayor after losing to an old rival, Engr. Augusto Corro of the Liberal Party.
Loot said while she may eventually concede defeat, she would file a complaint against what she claimed were “rigged” Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines used in the town.
Corro of the Liberal Party-Cebu received 18,101 votes against Loot’s 15,700 votes.
Corro’s running mate Gilbert Arrabis Jr. got 18,534 votes against his rival Renato Te, who received 13,462 votes.
Corro won despite having only two out of 20 barangays supporting his bid.
Loot was Daanbantayan mayor from 1998 until 2007. She slid to vice mayor in 2007 to 2010 before running for mayor that year
.Corro said he won because people got angry after Loot ordered the closure of private cemeteries.
“She also failed to resolve rampant illegal fishing activities and an antiquated water supply system,” Corro said, charges which Loot denied. Correspondents Chito Aragon and Renan Alangilan
