ILOILO CITY, Philippines — An explosion slightly damaged a power transmission tower in Miag-ao town in Iloilo Friday evening, according to a belated military report.

No injuries were reported and the transmission line has remained operational, Colonel Arnold Quiapo, commander of the Army’s 301st Infantry Brigade, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Saturday.

He said the blast from a still undetermined type of explosive damaged the transmission tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Barangay (village) Indagan in Miag-ao around 11:20 p.m.  Miag-ao is about 42 km south of Iloilo City.

The blast was reported Saturday afternoon after troops of the Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion who were securing the area in preparation for Monday’s election discovered the damage.

Quiapo said the explosion slightly damaged the concrete foundation of one of legs of the tower. The blast also created a shallow crater.

Military and police personnel are still trying to identify those who planted the explosive.
