Lancers near national finals

THE REIGNING Visayas champions Lancers took a step closer towards making a return trip to the national finals as they romped over the West Negros University, 96-75, at the start of the Visayas finals of the Coca Cola PBA Youngstars Basketball Tournament at the Capitol Parish Gym yesterday.

Theo Joshua Flores showcased his multi-faceted game as he tallied a game-high 26 points, most of which came in a pivotal third period stretch, wherein he combined with Dexter Silorio for 17 points in a sizzling run that gave them a 72-56 lead heading to the final canto. The University of the Visayas-powered Lancers also got significant contributions from Orlan Wamar, who had 18 points, while Silorio and Jun Manzo had 17 and 16, respectively.

John Lemuel Pastias led WNU with 25 points while Jason Celis added 15.

Next up for the Lancers will be Ateneo de Iloilo this morning with a win giving them a spot in the national finals slated later this month. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
